June 14-16

Game Highlights

June 14th
~ Miners run their streak to EIGHT STRAIGHT with a 4-1 win over Motor City.  Kris Bryant and Cedric Mullins each drive in a pair and Freddy Peralta pitches into the eighth inning allowing just two hits and one run.

~ Great follows Max Fried and his complete game shutout to their SIXTH STRAIGHT victory.  Four home runs account for all the Auks runs in the 6-0 win.

~ Santa Ana's Max Scherzer is still undefeated, improving his record to 8-0 and lowering his ERA to 2.13 as the Winds collect their SIXTH WIN IN A ROW.  Aaron Judge raps our four hits, including his 16th home run, and Frank Schwindel provides the breathing room in the 7-1 win with a seventh inning grand slam.

June 15th
~ Two streaking teams meet in Phoenix, and the result of game one of the series is NINE WINS IN A ROW for Phoenix and the end of Santa Ana's streak.  What looked like a game in hand for the Miners turned into a real nail biter in the ninth when the Winds rallied to score three runs and put the tying and winning runs on base with one out.  Miner closer Jimmy Nelson warms in a hurry and finally puts out the fire, striking out the final two batters to preserve the win.

~ Hawaiian's John Means outduels Scurvy's Frankie Montas and Collin McHugh registers his league leading 20th save as the Hammers make a second inning run stand up for a 1-0 victory.

~ Brooklyn keeps finding ways to make games interesting.  After trailing 2-0 most of the game, Kraken first baseman Lourdes Gurriel gives his team the lead with one swing of the bat, a three run homer in the eighth inning.  First comeback win after trailing after seven innings?  Not . . . so . . . fast...  Eloy Jimenez hits a game tying homer in the ninth and pinch hitter Jake Bauers walks it off for the hometown Honey Badgers in the 10th with a two run shot of his own.  Pittsburgh comes back to snatch a 5-3 win.

June 16th
~ And here I was hoping the #1 team in the league could rescue me from these incessant Phoenix recaps...  Phoenix wins #10 IN A ROW, 4-3 over Santa Ana.  20-2 over the last three weeks . . . unbelievable.

~ Pittsburgh wastes no time putting tonight's game against Brooklyn away, scoring one in the first before sending 16 men to the plate and scoring 11 runs in the second.  Two errors in the inning did not help the cause and led to six unearned runs.  Bryan Reynolds doubles, triples and drives in five runs in the inning and the Badgers coast to a 16-7 win.  Give Brooklyn credit for not quitting on the game however; trailing 15-0 entering the eighth, the Kraken score seven runs over the last couple frames to make the outcome a little closer.

~ A walk off in Mother Lode as Whit Merrifield "saves" Argo closer Raisel Iglesias from blowing a beautifully pitched game by Casey Mize and two relievers.  Entering the ninth, Mother Lode held a precarious 1-0 lead before Kevin Kiermaier hooked a deep shot just inside the right field foul pole for a game tying homer.  After a hit batsman and a walk put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the inning, Merrifield lines his game winning hit into right field to score Ty France and allow the Argo closer to exhale and the fans to celebrate.
