Bako Bums Set Course... To The Future

Bako - The newly formed Bako Bums and their GM, Brendt Crews, have certainly hit the ground running during their inaugural off season. Whether the numerous moves prove to be foolhardy or inspired is a question for the future, but the franchise has begun stocking their farm system with as much talent as they can get their hands on. “The major league team may look more Bad News Bears than ’27 Yankees at times this season as we build a foundation to compete in the future, but rest assured the team will come to play each and every day,” said Crews. “We are very excited with the level of talent we have amassed at the minor league level; that is the foundation from where we build an eventual championship caliber club.”

Continuing to build that base, Bako has swung another veteran for prospect deal; this one with the Foothill Nomads. Moving the recently selected Danny Salazar (2018, $2.0M), the Bums acquire a 5th round minor league pick in the upcoming Minor League Draft. Commented Crews, “While Salazar offered us some starting pitching depth, acquiring that minor league pick keeps us in line with our philosophy of building from the ground up. And it gives a veteran winner like Salazar the chance to help a competing team.”

Continuing to build depth in their rotation has been a focus of Nomad’s GM Matt Buland this winter. “We are very happy to bring a quality arm like Danny Salazar into Foothill. Any time you can add a mid-90’s arm to the rotation for a reasonable price you jump on it.”

Considering the activity they’ve shown in their first couple months in the league, it’s hard to say this is the last we will see of the Bums in the trade headlines. As his cell phone rang once again, Crews mentioned, “As long as it helps our long term goal, no deal will be dismissed without consideration.”
