GIG-2019 Round 8

Again congrats to Matt and Brian S. for leading GIG-2019 at the half-way point.  And it’s a free-for-all with the rest of us who’ve been active each round, as the top 3 get a supplemental pick in the 2020 draft.

Let’s get on to Round 8 which has the standard 13 games again, ending July 28 after a total of 98 games.

1) Points Possible: 3
Let’s keep our eyes on the competition for best record, as we’ve been doing from time to time.  The Kraken enter Round 8 with 65 wins and a one-game lead on the Dogs, with the ACLs just 3 back.
- The Kraken take on the Rattlers, Robots, Rum Runners, and Dogs (3 games a piece) and one game against the Blues.
- The Dogs go against the Bums, Koi, Sweets, Kraken (3 games each) and one game against the Madmen.
- And the ACLs get the Robots, Rougarou, Madmen, Argonauts (3 each) and one against the Brewers.
a) For one point: Which team will lead the league in wins at the end of Round 8?
b) Bonus: What will the high win total be? (2 points if you nail it, 1 if you’re one off).

2) Points Possible: 2
The Blues’ Chris Sale remains the only undefeated starting pitcher in MSB at 15-0.  He is slated to start 3 games this round.
a) For one point: Will Sale remain undefeated?
b) For one point: What will his record be at the end of Round 8?

3) Points Possible: 4
The Dogs’ Jose Abreu has been on fire lately.  And he has a current 19-game hit streak.  The longest hitting streak this season is 21 games by the Blues’ Whit Merrifield.
a) For one point: Will Abreu surpass 21 games?
b) Bonus: When will his hitting streak end (how many games)?  (3 points for nailing it, 2 for being one off, 1 for being two off)

4) Points Possible: 4
In case you haven’t noticed, the Landlubbers are finally picking up the pace and playing the way I and others thought they would.  And it’s their pitching that is the most impressive.  They have distanced themselves from the other 19 teams with a 3.08 ERA compared to the 2nd place team (ACLs) at 3.49!  That’s nearly half a run!  The league average is 4.09, a whole run higher.  In Round 8 they play 3 game sets against the Madmen, Cutthroats, Rougarou, and Koi, with one game against the Bums.
a) For one point: By the end of Round 8, will their team ERA rise, or fall?
b) Bonus: What will their ERA be at the end of Round 8? (3 points for nailing it, 2 for being 0.05 off, 1 for being 0.10 off).

5) Points Possible: 5
We’ve got a great battle going on for the lead in extra base hits.  The Kraken’s Jose Ramirez leads outright with 52, but 7 players behind him are within 5!  I’ll let you take a look at the batting leaders and scroll down to the extra base hits ledger (just 4 rows down on the left side).
a) For two points: Which player will be leading the league in EBH’s at the end of Round 8?
b) Bonus: How many EBH’s will the leader have? (3 for nailing it, 2 for being one off, 1 for being 2 off).

Good luck!  Total points possible for Round 8: 18

1a) This is a tough one because I think the ACLs might have the easier schedule (just based on team records), but they're 3 games behind... I'm gonna go with the Kraken.
