Aug. 10-12

Two big series' to highlight tonight

Bako visits Moonstruck
~ The Bako Bums invade Moonstruck with a revamped rotation featuring Sean Manaea in game 1 and Noah Syndergaard in game 2, to take on their surging Scully division rivals.  Game 3 gets no easier as MSB wins leader Zack Greinke takes the hill.  In game 1, the Bums race out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and Manaea pitches seven strong innings giving up just three hits and one earned run.  The offense is led by Nolan Arenado and his three doubles and three RBI, and Xander Bogaerts pair of home runs.  The Bums swamp the Blues 12-3 to take game 1.  In game 2, the second of the Bums rotation acquisitions, Noah Syndergaard, goes seven shutout innings and Roberto Osuna and Josh Hader finish out the 5-0 win to give the Bums game 2.  Game 3 is a battle as Jesse Chavez goes toe to toe with Greinke.  Chavez pitches eight strong innings, however Greinke combines once again with Josh Hader to suppress the Blues just enough for Bako to eek out a 3-2 win and complete the sweep.

Next on the docket for the Bums . . . . a trip to Phoenix to battle the Miners.

Detroit rolls into Ankeny
~ The Maniax make a trip to Ankeny hoping to slice into the ACL's division lead.  In game 1, Max Scherzer stiffles Ankeny with eight strong innings striking out 11, propelling Detroit to a 4-2 win over the front running, but slumping, ACL's.  Game 2 turns into an old west shootout between the Caray division rivals, and ends in walk off fashion for the ACL's.  Austin Meadows rips a bases clearing triple to deep center field to lift Ankeny to the 11-10 victory and even up the series.  Game 3 is just the least bit more tame as the two teams combine for 17 runs and 24 hits.  The Maniax take the first inning lead with two runs in the top of the inning.  Short lived is that lead though as Ankeny comes back the bottom of the inning and scores three runs of their own.  That pretty much set the tone for the night; Detroit races out to a big lead, Ankeny comes back, only to have the Maniax put the game away late with runs in the eighth and ninth innings.  Detroit breathes a sigh of relief, takes game 3, 10-7, and manages to climb one game closer to the ACL's.

Game Highlights - Aug. 10th

~ Chicago annihilates Windy City, 15-2, behind Anthony Rizzo and Yoan Moncada.  Both players crack two homers each and drive in five runs apiece to lead the 14 hit attack.

~  Rolla's Hyun-Jin Ryu pitches seven innings allowing just one run and lowers his league leading ERA to 2.39, as he runs his record to 14-2.  The Sweets score the 6-1 victory over New York.

Game Highlights - Aug. 11th

~ Phoenix starter Jose Quintana befuddles AZ hitters for eight innings, giving up just four hits and no runs.  Certainly not overpowering, Quintana strikes out just four, but he walks none and keeps the Koi off balance all night.  It's a good thing he did, as the Miner hitters are also shutout on just four hits over eight innings before the ageless one, Nelson Cruz, belts his 18th home run in the ninth to give Phoenix the 1-0 win.

Game Highlights - Aug. 12th

~ J.A. Happ and two Hawaiian relievers handcuff Pittsburgh hitters, giving up five hits and one single run and the Hammers walk away with a 5-1 victory.

~ AZ's Luis Severino completes his own three hit shutout, striking out 11 Miner hitters, and sending the Koi to a 6-0 win.
