Aug. 23-25

Series Highlights

~ Phoenix rolls into Scurvy for a three game set with the Dogs.  In Game 1, Phoenix rolls out to a 6-1 lead after five innings and then holds off the Dogs for a 6-5, one run victory.  A balanced offensive attack is led by Kris Bryant who deals the big blow with a bases clearing triple in the second.  Game 2 pits Aaron Nola against Garrett Richards.  Nola holds fort through six innings, keeping the Dogs at bay, until a five run seventh is his and the Miners undoing.  Yasmani Grandal delivers the big hit, a three run homer off reliever Phil Maton and Scurvy takes the win, 9-7.  In the rubber match, Zack Wheeler and Gerit Cole stymie the offenses through the sixth, but the late game heroics are at play again.  The Dogs get the better of it, riding back to back homers in the eighth inning from Yoenis Cespedes and Mike Ford for the winning margin.  Scurvy takes two out of three from the Miners.

Game Highlights - Aug. 23rd

~ Motor City may be winding down a frustrating season, but Joey Lucchesi has held up his end of the bargain.  On this night he outduels Chicago's Steven Strasburg, combining with two relievers to shut out the Runners, 2-0.  Lucchesi runs his record to 13-9 and lowers his ERA to 3.64.

~ New York's Jon Lester packs his own season of frustration into one complete game, four hit shutout in Grants Pass.  The Knights offense doesn't make things any easier, scoring just a single run in the sixth inning, but it's enough on this night for Lester to complete the 1-0 victory.

Game Highlights - Aug. 25th

~ Hawaiian's Lance Lynn and four relievers pitch a three hit shutout at Lakeview as the Hammers take a 6-0 win.

~ Moonstruck ace, Clayton Kershaw and closer Seth Lugo throw a two hit shutout at Brooklyn and the Blues scrape out the 2-0 win thanks to a max Muncy home run.

~ Ann Arbor scores in every inning but the sixth (ironically, the sixth is the only inning visiting Windy City does score).  The Landlubbers pile up 18 hits and coast to the 11-1 win.

~ Lastly, but certainly not least, Motor City's Madison Bumgarner is perfect through seven innings.  After working around a hit batsman and a walk in the eighth to spoil the perfect game, Bumgarner completes his NO-HITTER, leading the Madmen to a 2-0 victory over Chicago.  Congratulations to him and the Motor City franchise.
