Playoff Round 1 - October 1

So sorry guys! Had an event to work last night and these recaps are a bit lighter than I would have liked. Should be back at it tomorrow.

Game 1: ACL's at Chicago Rum Runners at Ankeny
When Jason mentioned the Rum Runners success vs the ACL's over the regular season, he was not kidding. You might call it ownage, with the Runners winning 10 of 12. The dominate ACL's only had losing records vs two other teams and there was nothign close to 10-2.

But the tides have changed, as they often do when we shift to postseason baseball, and the ACL's have turned around the ownage.  The Runners touched up Bieb's for 4 runs early on, but the ACL's offense rolled scoring 10 for the night.

ACL's win 10-4 and lead the series 3-0

Game 2: Grant's Pass Brewers at Phoenix Miners
The offenses lit it up in the first scoring 5 combined with the Brewers taking a 3-2 lead which held into the 8th. Both teams matched runs and we headed to the 9th with the Brewers up 1. With one out, Perez stepped up the plate and hit a rocket out to left-center tying things up in dramatic fashion.

All things were quiet for the Brewers, but the Miners threatened again in the 10th with leaving a runner on 1st and 2nd, again in the 11th this time leaving a runner on 2nd and 3rd before the Brewers decided it was bed time and battered the Miners pitchers for 5 in the top of the 12th with last nights hero Pham lacing a single between 2nd and 3rd and getting the rally started. The Brewers really worked the counts in this inning and followed it up with bigs hits by Braun and Cron who have both performed well in the series.

It must be said again, but this has been the suprise series so far. The Brewers backed into the playoffs after blowing up the roster at the deadline and the Miners were great throughout and were even in the running to win the division until late in the year. But as we've seen time and time again, the playoffs are a whole other animal.

Brewers win 9-4 (in 12) and lead the Series 3-0.

Game 3: Bako Bums at Scurvy Dogs
As Rod shared his text battle with Brenda, he had to expect a win from Cole and despite allowing 4 runs (a massive compliment to the Bums considering how good Cole is), he got the win. The Bums Greinke was good, but Pomeranz coughed it up allowing a HR to Turner to tie the game and to Kepler for what ended up the winning run. #Scurvyin7 isn't quite a improbable as it once sounded two days ago.

Scurvy win 5-4 but the Bums still lead the Series 2-1

Game 4: Brooklyn Kraken at Detroit Maniax
Up 2 games Detroit tried the old bullpen game tactic that has become a consistent part of the game over the last few years. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't and in this case it just plain fell flat on it's face. In the second Andriese gave up a double, threw a wild pitch and then Ahmed, who isn't typically known for his pop, hit one out. Andriese stopped the bleed temporarily, getting out the second with no more damage but the decision to run him out for one more proved unwise with him allowing another 4 in the third before getting yanked from the game.

That's all the Kraken needed thanks to a solid night by Hamels and the bullpen finally shutting down the Maniax vaunted lineup. Most astonishing stat of the night, the top 4 (Albies, Trout, Ramirez, and Tatis -oh my) went 0 for 12 though with a walk or two scattered around.

Kraken win 7-3 but the Maniax still lead the Series 2-1
