Playoff Round 2 - October 12

ACL's at Maniax:
Castillo vs Scherzer

A loss here would put the defending champs in a serious hole, and they were facing one of the best in Scherzer. So their backs were definitely up against the proverbial wall.

Sano got them started in the 2nd with a 2-run HR, but the Maniax answered in the 3rd with a 3-run HR by Trout. Conforto tied it back up in the 4th with a solo HR.

Trout lead off the 5th with a double and scored on a Ramirez single. An Abreu single followed by a risky double-steal (seriously? I mean Ramirez had 39 SB on the year but Abreu is not fleet of foot. Ballsy manager decision in this reporters mind) put runners in scoring position. But Robles got Judge to strikeout and Peralta flied out to center to end the frame.

However, Trout wasn't done yet (3-5 with 3 runs and 5 RBI for the game) hit a 2-run HR in the 6th to take a 6-3 Maniax lead. And with Scherzer still on the mound it's not looking good for the defending champs.

But that's about where the wheels fell off.
Lindor hit a HR to start the 8th and the ACL's added another run to get the deficit to only 1 run.
Meadows hit a HR to start the 9th and suddenly the score is tied. A double, single, and single for the game winner . A common theme this postseason has been ineffective bullpens...

ACL's win 7-6 and the series is tied 2-2

Bums at Brewers:
Greinke vs Desclafani

This game was never really in doubt. Sorry fans of the Bums/Brewers but the ACL's/Maniax series has just had more drama.

The Bums jumped out very early on a Votto double, who later scored on an Arenado sac fly. They added 3 more runs in the 2nd - everyone seemingly was involved. Walk, walk, single, RBI ground-out, SB, double. Sheesh...

The Brew Crew tried to come back but the Bums padded their lead with a couple more runs in the 8th. A pair of singles followed by 3 consecutive walks accounted for the runs. As a staff the Brewers only allowed 5 walks total, but they came at very bad times - they put runners on base to start the 2nd and then the bases-loaded walks in the 8th. Ouch.

Bums win 6-3 and are one game away from advancing to the World Series.
