World Series G2

Clevinger vs Paxton

This was essentially a must-win game for the defending champs. It's pretty tough to come back after falling behind 0-2 at home.

Clevinger walked a couple in the 1st, but got Torres to ground into an inning ending double play.

Clevinger walked another in the 2nd, and this time it cost him as Encarnacion hit a HR deep to LF to give the ACL's an early 2-0 lead. He walked another in the 3rd, but got out of the inning without any damage.

In the 4th Meadows hit a double down the line and that was the end of the night for Clevinger. He struggled with his command all night, only throwing 30 of his 66 pitches for strikes.

Paxton also got a rather quick hook (understandable after the G1 loss) as he got pulled after allowing a Cron single in the 5th. His line for the night though was much better - 4.1 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks.

A Perez HR to start the top of the 6th made the score 2-1 and the Ankeny faithful started getting nervous. But Meadows and Encarnacion were at it again in the bottom of the frame (combined 4-6 with 3 runs and 2 RBI on the night) as they singled and doubled to make the score 3-1.

The Brewers best chance to cut the deficit was in the top of the 7th when they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out. But Newman and Perez both struck out and that was the last time the Brew Crew threatened.

ACL's win 3-1 and even the series at 1 each.

The Brewers were done in by a lack of offense (only 6 hits) while also being generous with the walks (7 allowed, 5 total to Soto/Betts) while the ACL's walked no one.

The series heads to Grants Pass for games 3-5.
