World Series G5

Darvish vs Bieber

This one was interesting...

Not much happened until the top of the 4th when a Soto single followed by a Betts HR gave the ACL's a 2-0 lead. They added another run in the 5th to take a 3-0 lead. Sano hit a 3-run HR in the 6th to give them a 6-0 lead.

Bieber up to that point was dealing. He struck out the first 7 Brewers to start the game and had only allowed 2 hits and had struck out 10 through the bottom of the 5th. But then all hell breaks loose.

Bieber walked the first two batters (Pham and Semien) to start the bottom of the 6th, his first and only walks allowed. Marte loaded the bases via an error by the 1st baseman Encarnacion. Bieber did collect his 11th strikeout next, but Dietrich lined a single to CF and then Cabrera hit a double down the 3b line to make the score 6-3 and end the night for Bieber.

But the Brewers weren't done yet.

Soria walked Braun to reload the bases. A pop-up to 2b gave the ACL's 2-outs. But a Gomes double to RC cleared the bases and tied the game. Pham lined a single to LC to give the Brew Crew a 7-6 lead. Semien walked again (his 2nd of the inning) New RP Urias finally ended the threat, but the damage was done.

Lindor started the 7th with a triple and later scored on a Betts single to even the score at 7.

And that's where the score stayed until the top of the 9th when Soto singled and eventually scored. Torres with the game winner.

ACL's win 8-7 and are one game away from back-to-back championships.

The one thing that gives the Brewers hope is that the ACL's are not performing at the plate in this series. They were slashing .142/.237/.242 coming into G5 and even afterward are still only slashing .173/.267/.308 - those numbers would be much worse if it wasn't for Betts (.333/.455/.500). Encarnacion isn't doing terrible (.231/.375/.538) and I suppose Soto is getting on base (.235/.409/.235) but it gets ugly pretty fast after that. So if that trend continues this series is far from over, although the ACL's will play G6 and G7 (if necessary) in Ankeny.
