May 17-18

Another set of short series:

~ Santa Ana blows into Ann Arbor and takes a pair from the frontrunning Landlubbers.  The two wins run the Winds win streak to SIX games and sets them in a tie atop the KML with Ann Arbor.

~ Mother Lode takes two from Arizona, and Moonstruck does the same to Phoenix as the Argos and Blues continue to chase down the Frick leading Bums, who continue to hold them at bay with a pair of one run victories over Pittsburgh.

~ Austin Gomber of Great Auk pitches eight shutout innings allowing just three hits as he outduels Scurvy ace, Shohei Ohtani in the Auk's 1-0 win on the 17th.  Gerrit Cole comes back the next night and strikes out 12 in seven dominant innings and Harrison Bader goes 4-4 with his 4th home run and the Dogs split the series with a 6-1 victory.

~ The Rattlers offense keeps humming right along, punishing Motor City pitching with 24 runs on 31 hits in Windy City's two game sweep.  While Vlad Jr. holds his average at a league leading .378, there is no one hero over the two games as 16 of the 18 starters over the two games collects at least on hit; 17 of the 18 score at least one run; and 13 of the 18 drive in at least one.  The very definition of a team effort.

In that second game between my Blues and the Miners, it went 11 innings. The Miners were down 4-1 in the 9th and scored 3 to tie it. Stayed that way to the 11th, and the Miners put up 2, both runs with two outs. Then the Blues returned the favor, but scored 3 runs with 2 out. The last run was on a wild pitch.

It’s randomness like that that irks me sometimes. It’s cute when it happens as a one-off, but stuff like that happens it seems every other week in the sim. When was the last time you saw an MLB game end on a wild pitch? Has it happened this century?
