Title: Dogs - Argos
Post by: Scurvy Dogs on July 19, 2020, 06:41:07 AM
After some roster purging, the Argos are still in the playoff chase and were short on innings. I’m your huckleberry...

Julio Teheran - 2020, $6 mill ($3mill prorated) is sent to the Argos for the 3.12 pick and Mauricio Dubon - 2022/$250k.

Don’t get too settled Dubón, rumor has it you’re not in Scurvytown too long.

Argonauts confirm.

Amidst a full-on Firesale, this trade probably comes off as a bit odd. You wouldn't be wrong, but there is SOME logic to it. For one, the Argonauts are really in a pitching crunch after trading away 400+ innings of starting pitching and some of their best relievers. Teheran helps fill that hole to get us through the rest of the season.

On the less logical, but technically true side, the Argonauts are still surprisingly within striking distance of the the last wildcard spot in their division. Despite trading away deGrom, Neris, Story, and Verlander (to name a few), the team has put up a nearly identical record since those trades. In other words this surprisingly ho hum team, has been just as surprisingly ho hum of late so why not grab a decent pitcher with no long term financial burden and take a shot at squeaking in by the skin of our teeth?
