July 16-18

Series Recaps

Walla Walla at Hawaiian
The Sweets remain the hottest team in the league, sweeping through Hawaiian and extending their winning streak to SIX GAMES.  In game three, Walla Walla falls behind as Cole Irvin gets knocked around and out in the fourth, giving up four runs on eight hits.  The Sweets bullpen responds with 6.2 shutout innings to give the offense the chance it needs to mount a comeback.  The winning runs score on a pair of infield RBI singles and a passed ball in the sixth.

Arizona at Whacky
Whacky sweeps Arizona out of town and extends the KML's longest winning streak to FIVE GAMES.  The streak has pulled the Tubemen back within three games of the KML leading Landlubbers.  Starting pitching wins the series for Whacky as Luis Castillo, Blake Snell, and Braxton Garrett allow just 3 runs on 13 hits in a combined 21 innings pitched.

Grants Pass at Motor City
The top team in the league takes two of three in Motor City, holding on to their one game lead over Tucson in the Frick.  The offense wins the first two game of the series for the Brewers, totaling 19 runs on 26 hits and six home runs.  Motor City rallies back from down 6-0 in game three to take a 9-7 win.  All nine Madmen runs are scored in the seventh as two Brewer relievers can not record a single out and all three relievers in the inning are charged with three earned runs each.

Tucson at Ann Arbor
The KML leading Landlubbers lose the series, 2-1, but retain their slim one game lead.  Game one looks like a cakewalk for Tucson as the offense runs out to a 7-0 lead and Spencer Strider pitches six shutout innings.  The Thunder bullpen tries to sabotage Strider's 9th win, giving up five runs late, but Reynaldo Lopez finally shuts the door by striking out the final two batters of the game.  Ann Arbor runs out to a 4-0 lead early in game three only to see their bullpen cough up the lead by giving up five runs in the sixth.  Manny Margot saves the day for the Landlubbers though, plating the tying run in the seventh with an RBI single and then doubling home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Bako at Santa Ana
Santa Ana takes two of three from Bako to keep pace with Ann Arbor in the KML.  Gio Urshela belts a home run on the first pitch of the ninth inning in game one to send the Sea Wolves to the walk off 3-2 victory.  After dropping game two to the Bums, Kyle Gibson leads the home team to the series win with seven innings of one run ball and Mike Trout continues his MVP campaign with three hits, including his 30th home run of the season, and Santa Ana cruises to a 7-1 game three win.

Scurvy at Windy City
Scurvy takes game one behind Shohei Ohtani.  The Rattlers bullpen wins game two with 4.2 innings of no-hit ball, preserving Windy City's early 6-4 lead.  Game three is tight all the way to extras.  The Rattlers pull out the win on Vladimir Guerrero's bases loaded sac fly in the 10th to win the series.

Phoenix at Ankeny
After Shane McClanahan wins game one for Phoenix, Miners ace Max Scherzer almost completes his own shutout in game two.  Scherzer works in and out of trouble most the game though, giving up four hits and uncharacteristically walking five (including two in the ninth which led to his removal) before Jhoan Duran shuts the door on Phoenix' 4-0 win.  Ankeny avoids the sweep in game three, riding four homers to a 7-3 win.

Mother Lode at Brooklyn
The Argos have hit a skid, losing 10 of their last 14, including being handed a sweep at the hands of Brooklyn.  Michael Wacha and two relievers pitch a five hit shutout in game one.  Game two has a few more fireworks as Mother Lode mounts a ninth inning rally, plating three runs but ultimately falling a little short.  Game three sees Noah Syndergaard even his record at 6-6 with six strong innings and Brooklyn completes the sweep with a 5-1 win.

Great at Lakeview
The Rougarou take game one, 8-5, with a 15 hit attack, and game two behind a brilliant pitching performance from the staff.  Alex Wood and a pair of relievers strike out nine Auk hitters and allow just five hits and one run.  Game three goes into the late innings tied 1-1.  Great salvages one game of the series with a seven run eighth inning, highlighted by Marcel Ozuna's three run homer.

San Diego at Roxbury
San Diego takes two of three in Roxbury, winning game three on an eighth inning Robots error, 4-3.  The Anglerfish win a wild 7-5 victory in game one before an even wilder game two goes the Robots way.  After giving up a two run lead in the ninth, Roxbury walks off game two, 9-8, on Trey Mancini's tenth inning double that plates Christian Yelich.
