Title: GIG 2020 Round 4
Post by: Kyle on May 23, 2020, 10:56:02 PM
Jason Palmateer is having quite a season.  He remains atop the GIG 2020 Standings (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1czCR9F5RnaoYgYEy2Tej0AEr3_j-ggQ_9LCaX0BXMnc/edit?usp=drive_web&ouid=108266292468958155886) thru 52 games.  And his ACLs are having the best season by any team so far in MSB history.  We can all pray he ends up like the 2001 Mariners.

Also of note: Long story short, we ended the 2019 GIG in a 3-way tie for 2nd place.  Matt took home the trophy by 9 points (and a supplemental minor league draft pick, 4.21) over the other 3: Dan, Brian (Rougarou), and yours truly.  At the end of last season, we decided that GIG 2020 Round 1 would be the deciding factor in who got 2nd and 3rd place, with the loser of the three missing out on a pick (after the 5th and 6th round, respectively).  Well... Dan, Brian, and Kyle ALL FORGOT.  Including the CO, as well. We figured it out at the beginning of Round 3, and decided we'd make those results stand up.  Congrats to Dan (9 points), and moi (8 points), and a "no soup for you!" prize for Brian (7 points).  David, can you please make that official in the upcoming draft?

OK! Onto Round 4:

1) Generally speaking, the RF/RA margin is a very good way to determine a team's value.  The ACLs (218) and Miners (101) are the only two teams in triple digits thus far.  In fact, NO OTHER TEAMS have hit 50.
Question: Will any team reach 50 by the end of Round 4?  If you answer "NO," you get 2 points.  If you answer "YES," you get one point, and you then must name ONE team that did it, for 2 extra points.  To be clear, you can only name ONE team (not multiple teams... multiple teams may surpass 50, but you're only allowed to name one).

2) The Dogs' Starlin Castro is the only qualifying SS yet to commit an error this season.  Will he have an error on his stat sheet come the end of Round 4? (Yes or no, 1 point)

3) From Round 3, I still find three topics fascinating, so let's keep them in our minds until they succumb to reality.  1 point each, yes or no.
a) The Blues bullpen still has not blown a save.  Will they finally blow it in Round 4?
b) The Bums' Renato Nunez, in 133 ABs, STILL hasn't hit a double against RHP.  Will he finally do it?
c) The Robots have yet to play in an extra inning game.  In 52 games played!  Will the finally get into extras?
d) And going back to Round 2, the Kraken's Flaherty is now the only qualifying starting pitcher who has pitched a Quality Start every single time out.  Will he remain perfect in that regard?

4) The Madmen's Joey Gallo is leading the league in Home Runs with 24, up by 2 over Miguel Sano (ACLs), and 3 over Pete Alonso (Bums) and Mike Trout (Hogs).  Gallo also leads the league in strike outs (80) by 4.  Questions:
a) Will he still lead the league in HRs after Round 4 is completed? (yes or no, 1 point)
b) How many HRs will he have? (3 points for nailing it, 2 if you're 1 off, 1 if you're 2 off)
c) Will he still lead the league in Ks after Round 4? (yes or no, 1 point)
d) How many Ks will he have? (3 points for nailing it, 2 if you're within 2, 1 if you're within 5)

5) I'm searching for some ACLs stats that still boggle the mind, and there are plenty to choose from.  Questions:
a) They're scoring 7.3 runs per game on average.  Will they remain above 7? (yes or no, 1 point)
b) Their pitching staff has 12 shut outs.  TWELVE.  Second place in shut outs is my Blues, with 6.  What will their total number of shut outs be by the end of Round 4?  (2 if you nail it, 1 if you're one off)
c) They've hit 121 dingers.  The only team in triple digits (Miners have 98).  How many total HRs will they have by the end of Round 4? (3 points if you nail it, 2 if you're within 2, 1 if you're within 5).

Good luck!

Yes, the ACLs have posters of the 2001 Mariners, the 2019 Tampa Bay Lightning and other teams like that posted around the clubhouse to remind us of the prize in the playoffs, and that's what we are striving for. Hopefully, our outcome will be much closer to the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls than the 2018-9 Lightning.
