May 26

While my Miners did win this one in the 15th, this game was amazing for both team's total lack of clutch hitting.  A total of 35 batters made it onto base and yet the Miners only won 3-2 over the Cache Hogs.  27 men left on base plus 3 double plays left both managers scratching their heads asking what went wrong tonight.  The lack of clutch hitting finally ended in the 15th inning when Scott Barlow of the Cache Hogs gave up 4 hits + walks for 2 runs.  Not to be outdone, Nick Wittgren of the Miners proceeded to give up 3 hits + walks, but that extra man on base was the difference as the Miners only gave up 1 run.  Honestly, I think both teams breathed a sigh of relief that this one didn't go any longer.

Unlike the other extra innings game today, the Brewers and Madmen were able to maximize their chances though the Brewers' competence in doing so was on display.  In their 9-8 victory, the Brewers left only 5 men on base compared to the Madmen's 9.  For the Brewers, if someone made it onto base, there was a 66% chance they were going to score.  Great job by the Brewers for the their 10th win in 11 games.

The Blues haven't quite lived up to their promise so far this year, but Coach Kyle is hoping that tonight's win over the Devils followed by a day off for the team will allow everyone to enter the next stretch with an improved outlook on the remainder of the season.  This one was a 14-3 laugher that was over by the time the top of the 1st ended.  4 runs scored including 3 home runs had to have thrown Mike Fiers for a loop.  That said, Fiers did recover and was able to last until the 6th inning.  Which is a good thing as the Devils relief corps then proceeded to give up 9 runs over 3+ innings.

The Robots take the series with this 5-4 win over the Bums.  Rick Porcello wasn't great for the Robots, but he did enough and the Robots relief squad was able to come in and limit the damage from the 7th inning onwards.  This win was mostly about Randal Grichuk going 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a home run.  Grichuk has looked awful this year (.176 BA), but tonight he had a chance to shine.

Remember a couple of days ago when I mentioned the hot streak that the Sweets were on?  That was before they entered the Ann Arbor buzzsaw.  The Landlubbers swept the series outscoring the Sweets 19-6 including tonight's 7-1 victory in which Chris Paddack pitched the complete game.  Paddack looked practically Maddux-esque in throwing only 95 pitches and 67 for strikes. The Landlubbers relievers loved it - while they haven't had to pitch much lately, any night they get to light fires in each other's shoes is a great night.
