April 13-14

April 13th

~ Moonstruck shuts out Grants Pass in a somewhat peculiar game.  The Blues offense rapped out 14 hits with every hitter registering at least one hit, yet the team managed only six runs; starter John Gant battles wildness all game, walking six in 5.1 innings, yet he dances around the free passes to keep the Brewers off the scoreboard.  Two relievers complete the final 3.2 innings allowing just a single baserunner and Moonstruck downs GP, 6-0.

~ Chicago's Tanner Houck goes 7.2 innings of shutout ball, also dancing in and out of trouble with seven hits, two walks and a hit batsman.  But he also manages to keep the Madmen off the scoreboard as Freddie Freeman and Patrick Wisdom combine for three home runs and five RBI to lead the Runners to a 6-0 win.

~ Ranger Suarez and Michael Fulmer of Hawaiian have no such issues in Brooklyn, holding the Kraken hitters to just four hits in the Garden Hammers 10-0 shutout.  Trea Turner paces the offense with his first two homers of the season and five RBI.

~ A dramatic walk off in Phoenix.  The Miners enter the bottom of the ninth down 5-3.  Trent Grisham doubles and Cedric Mullins walks to open the inning ahead of Matt Chapman's run scoring single.  A misplay of a grounder to third allows the tying run to score and the game goes into extras.  The bottom of the tenth is no more favorable for Pittsburgh, and it is Grisham and Mullins once more in the middle of the rally.  With one out, Brendan Rodgers singles ahead of Grisham's single and an intentional walk to Mullins to load the bases.  Adam Frazier does not even have to lift the bat off his shoulder as he watches four pitches go by outside the zone and takes the walk off walk and Phoenix is gifted a 6-5 victory.

April 14th

~ The pre-season favorite in the KML, Santa Ana had a rough 1-4 start to the season.  They have since rattled off five straight wins, none more exciting than tonight's walk off against Chicago.  The Winds enter the eighth with a 6-2 lead but give up two runs in both the eighth and ninth, sending the game into extra innings.  The bottom of the 12th is the Fernando Tatis show.  The Winds young star coaxes a leadoff walk to open the inning, steals second on the very next pitch, goes to third on a wild pitch, and then scores on a passed ball.  Game over . . . Santa Ana 6-5 win.

~  The sputtering Lakeview offense breaks out in a big way against Roxbury, pounding out 18 hits.  Every starter collects at least one hit and the Rougarou score early and often on their way to a 14-5 drubbing of the Robots.

~ The Brothers Crews renew their rivalry in a new year, after younger brother Brandon's Brewers unceremoniously eliminated the 103 win Bums in last years Frick Conference Finals.  Grants Pass' Logan Gilbert pitches seven brilliant innings, striking out 10 Bums and Bako's Ian Anderson struggles through six innings giving up five hits and walking five.  Anderson manages to keep the Brewers off the board though, and Gilbert makes one mistake which Adolis Garcia punishes for his first home run of the season.  Bum relief aces Mark Melancon and Josh Hader complete the shutout and Bako takes the first game of the season in the family feud, 1-0.
