~ Arizona's Triston McKenzie pairs with two relievers to 2-hit the Grants Pass Brewers. The Koi pitchers did have to work around seven free passes to hold GP to a single run, but the Arizona offense did produce just enough to outscore the Brewers, 3-1.
~ A rain soaked game that saw a pair of hour long delays, did not affect Ann Arbor's Yusei Kikuchi on the mound. Kikuchi weathered both delays, giving up just a single hit in six shut out innings. Cristian Javier picked up where he left off, completing the 5-0 Landlubber win with three no-hit innings of his own in which he struck out seven of the ten batters he faced. Jonathan Schoop provided the timely hits with a pair of run scoring singles in the first and fourth innings among his three hits and three RBI.
~ The Force was not with Bako hitters on this night. Earning the Pitching Performance of the Night, Scurvy's Lance McCullers completes the first NO-HITTER of the season to lead the Dogs to a 4-1 win over the Bums. McCullers fights control all night, walking six, and he makes things very interesting in the ninth by walking the first three hitters he faces in the inning to load the bases. All the Bums can muster though is an RBI groundout before a pop up and a soft liner end the game. Bako's Sean Manaea's undoing is the fourth inning; he gives up a walk, throws a wild pitch, and is small balled to death by five singles as the Dark Side scores all four of their runs in the inning.
May 5th
~ Hawaiian's Ranger Suarez throws a five hit shutout, striking out eight and lowering his ERA to 1.19. Suarez is now 4-1 on the season and is among the top five pitchers in the league in most categories. The start is not luck driven as Suarez's RCERA is actually lower than his 1.19 ERA, sitting at a league leading 0.93. Paul Goldschmidt cracks a pair of homers in support and the Hammers down Ankeny, 6-0.
