May 6-7

May 6th

~ Brooklyn's Vladimir Gutierrez entered his start tonight winless with a 13.76 ERA, nearly 3 runners per inning, and over 3 home runs per start.  So naturally he was rocked once again by the two-time defending champion ACL's in tonight's Ankeny/Brooklyn contest.  Except . . . he wasn't.  Gutierrez pitched six shutout innings, allowing only five base runners, before the Kraken bullpen finished off the shutout.  The Kraken push the champs further under .500 with a 2-0 victory.

~ Ian Anderson of the Bums becomes the first six game winner, leading Bako to a 1-0 win over Phoenix with seven two-hit innings.  Clay Holmes pitches the eighth before Josh Hader finishes up for his 8th save.  The relief ace is still unscored upon in 14 appearances spanning 14.1 innings, having punched out 25 hitters and allowed just three base runners.  Hitters are a combined 1-43 so far against the Bako closer.  The lone run of the game is scored in the top of the first without a hit being recorded.

May 7th

~ Zack Wheeler outduels Gerrit Cole and Moonstruck takes a 2-0 lead into the late innings.  The Blues bullpen does not support Wheeler's fantastic outing, giving up a pair of two-run homers to Kyle Schwarber in the eighth, and some Japanese guy in the tenth.  Scurvy walks off Moostruck, 4-2.

~ A walk off in Chicago as well as Patrick Wisdom parks his league leading 14th homer (tied with Vlad Jr.) in the 11th inning, pushing the Rum Runners to a hard fought 3-2 win over Windy City.

~ Ann Arbor enters their tilt with Lakeview on a six game winning streak that has vaulted them to the top of the KML.  Entering the ninth, that streak looks over as the Rougarou own a 5-2 lead, but the Landlubbers have other ideas.  They send ten men to the plate and carve up the Rougarou bullpen for five line drive singles and a ringing double into the left-center gap on their way to a four run rally.  Ryan Tepera pitches a clean bottom of the ninth and Ann Arbor wins 6-2, keeping their streak alive with their SEVENTH STRAIGHT win.

~ The Winds score an 11-3 win over Roxbury and the star of the show is Santa Ana ace, Max Scherzer.  Scherzer runs his record to a perfect 5-0 with seven innings of one-run, 12 strikeout ball, lowering his ERA to 1.88 in a league leading 52.1 innings.
