Series Highlights

The GiG weekend we've been waiting for:

~ Argos @ ACL's - Ankeny takes two out of three, winning the third game 5-2.  The game is not without drama though, as the Argos score an unearned run in the ninth against starter Ryan Yarbrough and put two runners on to bring the tying run to the plate against reliever Tyler Rogers.  Closer Giovanny Gallegos comes out of the pen and three strikes later has shut down the rally by striking out pinch hitter Ian Happ.

~ Blues @ Hammers - The hometown Hammers take two of the three games, riding starters Lance Lynn in game one (8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 8 K's) and John Means in game two (7 IP, 3 H, 1 R) to 5-1 and 4-1 victories.  Moonstruck avoids the sweep in game three behind four home runs from a balanced attack in a 9-5 win.

~ Sweets @ Rum Runners - Rolla invades Chicago and takes two out of three from the Runners.  The teams trade shutouts to open the series, with Rolla's Charlie Morton continuing his impressive start to the season with seven two-hit shutout, 9 K innings to lower his ERA to 1.63 and lead the Sweets to a 7-0 win.  Chicago's Luis Castillo matches Morton's seven two-hit shutout innings in game two leading the Runners to a 6-0 win.  Rolla wins the rubber match, 5-2, to win the series.

~ Miners @ Rougarou - Miners take two out of three, bouncing back from a 9-1 shellacking from Lakeview in game one.  Kris Bryant goes 4-4 with a double and three RBI in game two to lead a balanced offensive attack as the Miners win, 7-3.  A late 8th inning rally plates three runs for Phoenix and scores them a 7-4 win in game three.

~ Brewers @ Kraken - Last place teams face off in Brooklyn, and have a very entertaining series.  Grants Pass scores six in the first inning of game one and hold on late for a 7-6 win.  The Kraken score two early runs in game two only to see the Brewers tie the game in the middle innings.  After a single and two walks loads the bases in the sixth, Brooklyn's Victor Caratini coaxes an additional walk to pick up the winning RBI the easy way as the Kraken win game two.  Game three is less dramatic as the Kraken score four in the third and ride a strong start from Victor Gutierrez to a 4-1 win and a series win.

~ Dogs @ Madmen - Host Motor City takes two out of three from the struggling Dogs.  Motor City spots Scurvy a three run lead in the top of the first in game one but waste no time evening the game by scoring three themselves in the bottom of the inning.  After  Shohei Ohtani puts the Dogs back in front with a fifth inning solo shot, the Madmen score two in the seventh courtesy of a Javier Baez two run shot and two more in the eighth courtesy of two wild pitches to score a 7-4 win in game one.  In game two, catcher Mike Zunino rips his 13th home run, a three run shot in the seventh to give the Madmen a 5-2 win.  Scurvy salvages one game of the series with a 5-3 game three victory, led by Albert Pujols who homers and drives in three.

~ Auk @ Rattlers - Windy City sweeps Great in three close games.  After the pitchers rule game one in a 3-1 Rattler victory, the offenses strike back in game two in a 9-8 slugfest.  Early MVP frontrunner, Vladimir Guerrero homers twice, giving him a league leading 21, and drives in 5 runs to pace Windy City's offense.  Game three goes into the 10th inning tied at three.  Shortstop Tim Anderson provides the walk off with a three run homer.

~ Bums @ Landlubbers - Visiting Bako drops the first game before scoring 19 runs over the final two to win both and take the series.  Ann Arbor's Yusei Kikuchi is the rare lefty able to tame the Bums right handed lineup as the Lubbers score a 3-1 win in the first game of the series.  Bako's bats wake up in game two, hitting five home runs, including Pete Alonso's 14th, and the Bums score an 11-4 win.  Alonso sends two more into the seats in game three and drives in five, giving the Bako slugger 16 HR and 48 RBI on the season and the Bums an 8-3 win in the series deciding game.

~ Honey Badgers @ Winds - Santa Ana remains the hottest team in the league, sweeping Pittsburgh out of town unceremoniously.  Game one is a dogfight with the Winds needing an 11th inning walk off sac fly form Austin Hays to put the Badgers down, 4-3.  Game two is no so close . . . the Winds pound out 15 hits, including three doubles and four home runs, in a 14-3 drubbing.  Lucas Giolito pitches effectively in game three and Scott Barlow and Tyler Matzek throw three hitless innings in relief and Santa Ana completes the sweep with a 6-2 win.

~ Koi @ Robots - Arizona completes a sweep of Roxbury behind a dominating start from rookie hurler Triston McKenzie in game three.  After slugging their way to 8-4 and 10-4 wins in the first two games, Arizona sends McKenzie to the hill for the final game.  He responds with six and a third shutout innings, dominating Robot hitters with twelve strikeouts.  McKenzie is never in trouble as he walks just one and gives up only a single hit.
