Round 8 August 05, 2022, 08:16:16 AM Well, dang. Round 7 was an interesting experiment, but it yielded very little points for all of us, with the top winner gaining 7 whole points. While Round 8's question gets us back to more "traditional" types of questions, they're still fun. And we're back to the standard 13 games in this round. Finally, I suggest you pull up the DMB Game Schedule to get a better grip on how to handle the questions this round. Good luck.1) We're going streaking! We've got two teams in the Frick with current 5-game winning streaks (Dogs and Honey Badgers), and two teams in the KML with losing streaks: the ACLs are on a 6-game skid, and the Rum Runners have lost 5 in a row. Guess the number where each streak stops, and you'll get the points in parentheses. See my example below as to how to write your answers.Dogs: Option A: 5-6 (1 pt); Option B: 7-9 (3 pts); Option C: 10-12 (5 pts); Option D: 13+ (7 pts)Honey Badgers: Option A: 5-6 (1 pt); Option B: 7-9 (3 pts); Option C: 10-12 (5 pts); Option D: 13+ (7 pts)Rum Runners: Option A: 5-6 (1 pt); Option B: 7-9 (3 pts); Option C: 10-12 (5 pts); Option D: 13+ (7 pts)ACLs: Option A: 6-7 (1 pt); Option B: 8-9 (3 pts); Option C: 10-12 (5 pts); Option D: 13+ (7 pts)Example Answer: 1) Dogs, AHoney Badgers, CRum Runners, BACLs D2) The Bums are now the only undefeated team when they take a lead into the 8th inning (55-0). Very impressive. Conversely, the Kraken are the only team with the opposite distinction: Yet to come back when losing entering the 8th (0-63).a) Yes or No (1 point): Will the Bums remain undefeated in this category when Round 8's games are finished?b) Yes or No (1 point): Will the Kraken finally get that late win in Round 8?3) If you're looking for a Triple Crown Pitcher, we've got TWO with a decent shot at it: The Winds' Max Scherzer and the Blues Zach Wheeler. Scherzer leads the league in ERA and Wins, and is 3rd in K's. He's got the best shot. Wheeler is 3rd in ERA, 2nd in K's, and is 3 wins behind Scherzer (9). Honorable mention goes to the Dog's Cole who is #1 in K's with 177, (172 for Wheeler and 165 for Scherzer), but with an ERA at 3.35 compared to Scherzer's 1.76, the experts all weighed in: He doesn't stand a chance. Sorry, Rod.Questions:a) Will Scherzer's ERA be UNDER 1.76 or OVER 1.76 at the end of Round 8? (UNDER = 2 points, OVER = 1 point)b) Will Wheeler close the gap in wins behind Scherzer, remain 3 back, or fall further behind Scherzer? (1 point for the correct answer)c) Yes (1 pt) or No (2 pts): Will Cole continue to mess with the Triple Crown dreams of both and remain on top of them both in K's by the end of Round 3?4) Match Ups! We've got some good ones this round. Pick the winner (1 point) and pick ONE sweep. No risk - you get 1 point for the win, and 3 extra points for the sweep if you get it right.a) July 22-24, Miners @ Windsb) July 25-27, a battle between current 3rd place teams: Rum Runners @ Bluesc) July 22-24, a battle of current 4th place teams: Dogs @ Garden Hammersd) July 19-21, a battle of current 5th place teams: Argonauts @ Rattlers5) Select a starting pitcher from your current team - whom you plan to keep in for the entirety of Round 8 - and guess his total number of strike outs for THIS round. (Hint: strongly consider consulting the database and see if he's on track for just 2 starts this round, or if he gets 3 starts.) If you nail it, you get 5 points. If you're off by 3 or less, you get 3 points. If you're off by 4 or 5, you get 1 point.Example answer: Wheeler, 22.Have at it, boys. I'll let Brendt chime in on the deadline for Round 8 answers.
