Aug. 7-9

Series Highlights

~ Ankeny wins the first two games of the series and takes a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning of game three before Ann Arbor rallies with a four run frame to avoid the sweep.  MVP candidate Austin Riley provides the winning shot, a monsterous two run home run to put the Landlubbbers ahead.  Riley's homer and three RBI give him 27 HR and 91 RBI on the season.

~ Moonstruck rolls through Grants Pass, sweeping the Brewers.  The highlight is Clayton Kershaw's six-plus, four hit shutout innings in the Blues 4-0 game three victory.

~ Chicago drops game one to Motor City before rebounding to win the series, two games to one.  In game three, Runner starter Framber Valdez pitches the best game of his uneven season, a complete game, 3 hit, 10 K shutout.

~ Phoenix welcomes the newly minted San Diego Anglerfish and returning owner Dave Brooke to town, but is less than hospitable.  The Miners take two of three games, highlighted by a masterful pitching matchup between San Diego's Taijuan Walker and Phoenix' Adam Wainwright.  Walker pitches into the ninth, holding a potent Miner offense to one run and Wainwright matches him with eight one run frames of his own.  Carlos Correa supplies the walk off single in the tenth to give the Miners a nail biting 2-1 win.

~ Brooklyn drops three to the visiting Hawaiian Garden Hammers, but they make it difficult along the way.  Game one goes ten innings before the Hammers push the winning run across in a 4-3 victory.  Game two goes eleven innings, Hawaiian scraping the 5-4 win on a seeing eye single through the right side infield hole.  Game three is just as close, entering the eighth knotted at 1-1.  Jeimer Candelario grounds just the second Hammers hit of the game through the left side hole to drive in the winning run in a 2-1 Hawaiian win.

~ Scurvy enters Rolla and secures game one, 4-3 and game two, 8-3.  Rolla uses an eight run fourth inning in game three to avoid the sweep.  The inning is highlighted by Hunter Renfroe's 38th home run (2nd in the league), a grand slam to punctuate the inning.

~ Bako drops game one but comes back to take the final two games of the series.  Pete Alonso homers in each game, raising his total to 32 on the season.

~ Windy City shuts out Roxbury in game one, 5-0, behind Jordan Lyles strong seven shutout innings.  After capturing game two 5-1, Roxbury returns the shutout favor in game three to win the series.  Sonny Gray wins his 9th game and drops his ERA below 3.00 with seven shutout innings.

~ Visiting Santa Ana and hometown Lakeview split games one and two, setting up a rubber match featuring Joe Musgrove and Johnny Cueto.  Musgrove wins the duel, winning his league leading 16th game (tied with Phoenix' Aaron Nola) and the Winds leave Lakeview with a 4-1 win and a series win.

~ The Auk and Koi hook up in Arizona and split the first two games, each earning a one run victory.  Game three is a 10-9 slugfest, won in the bottom of the ninth when Jesus Aguilar culminates a three run Koi rally with a walk off single to plate Bo Bichette with the wining run.
