 Series Highlights

~ In the Frick, Moonstruck welcomes Phoenix to town hoping to cut into the Miners advantage.  In game one, the Blues carry a 2-0 lead into the late innings behind six shutout innings from John Gant.  Moonstruck relievers are not able to close out the Miners and after Matt Chapman hits a pinch hit homer in the eighth to tie the score, Sal Perez gives the visitors a lead they will not relinquish with a sac fly later in the inning.  In game two the Blues bullpen comes through with four no-hit, six K innings in support of Taylor Hearn and Moonstruck knots the series with a 6-2 win.  In the rubber match, Phoenix sends Adam Wainwright to the mound to face Moonstruck's Alex Cobb who enters the game 9-0 with a 2.60 ERA.  The Miners are not impressed though and jump all over Cobb, opening the game with a single, walk, run scoring double, three run home run from their 1-4 hitters.  Things do not get better from there and Phoenix cruises to an 11-4 win and take the series two games to one.

~ Scurvy sweeps Great, running their win streak to five games and, more importantly, giving them sole possession of 2nd place in the Frick Conference.  Rookie Luis Gil gives up his first run in a Dogs uniform, but completes six strong innings in game one to win his fourth game in four starts, a 6-3 Scurvy victory.  games two and three are hard fought one run affairs, but Scurvy pulls both out, 4-3 in game two and 2-1 in game three.

In the KML:

~ Windy City sweeps through Motor City on the back of . . . who else . . . Vlad Guerrero.  The frontrunner for the MVP, Guerrero keeps his hold on the Triple Crown with a 5-13 series at the plate (also giving him a league leading 201 hits) that includes his 61st and 62nd home runs of the season and runs his RBI total to 137.  More importantly for the Rattlers, the sweep moves them into sole possession of the #3 wild card spot ahead of...

~ Chicago remains in the final wild card spot, taking two of three in Brooklyn.  Game one is a 17-4 offensive bludgeoning, featuring 10 extra base hits for the Runners.  In game two Luis Castillo and Caleb Thielbar combine for a five hit, 14 K shutout leading Chicago to a 5-0 win.

~ The ACL's take two of three at home from Roxbury, but it takes until the bottom of the 12th inning in game three to decide matters.  Ryan Mountcastle keeps the ACL's in the thick of the race with a walk off two run homer to give Ankeny the 5-3 victory and series win.  Ankeny remains one game out of the wild card, tied with...

~ Hawaiian deals Lakeview's late season charge a blow, ending the Rougarou's win streak and winning two of three in the series.  The two teams split the opening two games with the Hammers Brian Goodwin cracking an 11th inning walk off homer in game one and the Rougarou beating up on the Hawaiian bullpen with eight runs over the final four innings of game two.  Game three is a close, back and forth affair with the Hammers taking an early 1-0 lead, the Rougarou coming back to tie it at one and then take a 3-1 lead in the sixth, only to give up that lead in the bottom of the inning as Hawaiian ties it up at three runs apiece.  Corey Dickerson plates Wilmer Flores in the eighth to give the Hammers the winning run and the series victory.
