Sept 5-7

Series Highlights

Last series we highlighted the chaos that is the Kenneshaw Mountain Landis (FYI: it still is...), but tonight just take a look at the top of the Ford Frick!

Mother Lode visits Walla Walla
The Argos stroll into southern Washington trying to chase down the front running Sweets.  They accomplish just that, taking the first two games of the series to move into sole possession of first place in the Frick.  Mother Lode bludgeons Walla Walla pitching to the tune of 34 hits and 21 runs over the two games.  The Sweets move back into a tie atop the division however with a 6-5 win in game three.  For 7 1/2 innings it looks like Mother Lode might sweep, but an ugly bottom of the eighth for Argo relievers results in a four run Sweets rally that leaves the Frick knotted up.

Bako at Arizona
Bako secures a two to one series win in Arizona, winning the third game of the series in 10 innings.  The top of the tenth is a strange one that includes a ghost runner, balk, error, stolen base, wild pitch, and an infield single.  All of that adds up to the craziest two runs I've seen in a while and an eventual 6-5 Bums win.

Tucson at San Diego
Tucson wins two in San Diego to move closer to the conference lead.  Game one is a Zack Wheeler gem as the Thunder ace goes the distance in a one hit shutout.  Wheeler needs just 93 pitches to complete his Maddux.

And now the top of the Frick looks like this:
Walla Walla.........79-53
Mother Lode......79-53
Bako......................79-53
Tucson.................78-54

Grants Pass at Great
In an effort to break their long losing streak, Great shakes up the roster, the lineup, the rotation, the bullpen, the clubhouse spread, and the team decides to all wear their pants backwards for warm ups and batting practice.  Well, some of that is true....  The results are not immediate, as the Brewers win game one, 6-3, behind Springer, Altuve, and Tellez homers, but the Auk rebound to end the streak by taking the next two games of the series.  Game two is an extra inning affair that is won by an Aledmys Diaz three run homer off Brewer relief ace, Jason Adam (maybe 2 2/3 innings is a little much skipper...).  Great's game three win is highlighted by a pair of Dansby Swanson homers and the Auk are off an running on a two game winning streak.

Scurvy at Phoenix
David . . . thank you for putting the world back on its axis.

Phoenix takes the first two games of their series with Scurvy, winning game one in walk off fashion on Rhys Hoskins two run homer.  Game three goes into extras scoreless before Scurvy salvages a win with a four run tenth.

Ankeny at Whacky
The ACL's take two of three from the Tubemen highlighted by Julio Urias' stellar game three start.  Combining with two relievers, Urias leads the ACL's to a 4-0 shutout.

Hawaiian at Santa Ana
The Hammers lose ground to the front running Wolves, but manage to keep them from widening the gap too far with a 4-3 extra inning victory in game three.  Hawaiian parlays a walk, sac bunt and a couple singles into a three run tenth for the win.  The Sea Wolves remain clear of the chaos behind them, moving out to a three game lead in the division.

Brooklyn at Windy City
Brooklyn stays in the hunt with a series win in Windy City.  The Kraken take a 6-1 lead in game three and then weather a couple late Rattler rallies for a 6-5 win to secure the series.

Ann Arbor at Roxbury
Ann Arbor also remains on pace in the conference race, winning their series in Roxbury.  The Landlubbers win a nail biter of a game in the rubber match, scoring the lone run of the game in the second inning on a throwing error.

Motor City at Lakeview
The Rougarou drop the opening game before winning the next two to remain tied with Ankeny and Ann Arbor for the final wild card slot in the KML.  Adam Duvall homers twice in the middle game to lead Lakeview to a 10-4 route.
