Sept 14-17

Series Highlights

A couple of Frick series with major playoff ramifications this round.

Grants Pass at Tucson
The Brewers come in hot and leave just the opposite.  Tucson sweeps GP behind lights out pitching.  Alek Manoah and Clayton Kershaw bookend the sweep with shutouts of the Brewers and overall, Tucson pitching allows just 9 hits and 2 runs with a 25/3 K/BB ratio over the three games.

Bako at Mother Lode
Mother Lode limps home to welcome the rising Bums to town.  The Argos rebound from a rough road trip to win the series though and climb into a tie with Grants Pass for the fourth playoff spot in the Frick.  Marcus Stroman and Sandy Alcantara hook up in the final game; Stroman getting the better of it to salvage one win in the series for Bako.

Walla Walla at Scurvy
Scurvy continues to play spoiler, taking two of three from Walla Walla.  Alex Wood continues his brilliant pitching since being promoted, throwing a complete game, one hit shutout in game three.

Arizona at Great
Arizona sweeps Great, riding another September callup to a game three shutout.  The Koi's Bryce Elder completes his own one hit shutout and lowers his ERA over his five starts to 1.23.

Phoenix at San Diego
The Miners complete a third sweep in the Frick conference matchups this round.  In game one, Rhys Hoskins clubs a two run homer in the eighth inning to account for the winning runs in the Miners 5-3 win.

The KML wild card is tightening up again.  Just four games separate six teams for the final two wild card slots.

Lakeview at Santa Ana
Just as it looked like the Rougarou might fade, they ride into Santa Ana and take two of three and gain some ground in the playoff race.  Lakeview rallies in the top of the eighth inning of game three to snatch a 3-2 win.  Although he allowed three hits, Edwin Diaz locks down the victory by striking out all four batters he faces over the eighth and ninth and lowers his ERA to an incomprehensible 0.96.

Whacky at Motor City
The Tubemen take the first two games of the series to win the matchup and draw one game closer to the Wolves.  Tubemen pitching shutout the Madmen in game one on two hits.

Brooklyn at Hawaiian
Brooklyn has gotten hot at a good time, running their winning streak to five games with a sweep in Hawaii.  The Kraken are now even with Ann Arbor for the final wild card spot in the KML.

Ann Arbor at Ankeny
Ankeny aids Brooklyn's ascent into that wild card spot by taking two of three from Ann Arbor.  The series win also keeps the ACL's hopes for their own playoff spot alive, bringing them back within two games of the playoffs.

Roxbury at Windy City
The Rattlers take the rubber match to win the series at home against the Robots.  Carlos Rodon strikes out 11 over six innings in game three to lead the way.
