AN OPENING DAY TO REMEMBER

Bako (WBC) - A raucous sellout crowd packed Ebbets Memorial Park to welcome their new Mutiny League team to Bako tonight, and by the end of the game a full fledged party had broken out.  The energy of 41,149 fans in the stands spilled over onto the field and carried the expansion Bums to an unforgettable, and improbable, 8-0 win.  The Bums pounded out 15 hits, including a pair of three-run homers from Alex Avila and Maikel Franco, but the star of the game was on the mound for Bako.

The Bums #1 pick in this winters expansion draft has paid off already after his first game.  Zach Davies took the mound for his new team and put the Orange County hitters on their heels from the start.  Davies needed only seven pitches, all strikes, to set down the side in order in the first inning.  He retired the first 12 hitters he faced, not getting touched until the top of the fifth when Yadier Molina snuck a seeing eye single into right field.  After a squibber off the bat of Aaron Altherr just eluded Davies and put runners on first and second, Davies induced a double play grounder and then struck out Odubel Herrera to end the threat.  Once again in the seventh after the Devils got two runners on with one out, Davies again coaxed a double play grounder to preserve his shutout.  For the game, the Bums ace needed just 98 pitches to complete the first shutout in franchise history, giving up just six singles while walking none and striking out five.

Congratulations to the Bums, and here's hoping there's many more rousing celebrations to come during summer months in Bako.
