There’s been threads for this topic in the past. But I figure it’s time to bring it back up. What’s the worst transaction you’ve made (or failed to make)?
For me personally I’ve never thought I had anything super brutal. There’s always bad draft choices and such, we all have some of those. The one that has always bugged me was a decision to not protect ‘not Justin’ Bieber in the expansion draft a several years ago. That wasn’t great. Can’t remember who drafted him (Robots maybe?) who then flipped him to the ACL’s where he was a fine member of their rotation for several years. Oops.
But this offseason I have a doozy. Kyle was looking for starting pitching and offered me a 1st round pick and a Brewers farmhand with some control problems for George Kirby (maybe you all can already see where this is going).
Ultimately I turned him down. I was afraid of where the Ohtani market might end up and having a 4+ WAR SP still on a rookie deal was simply too valuable to give up. Fast forward 6 months or so and IRL Kirby missed the first month of the season and has only been ok since. Nothing special (0.8 WAR). To make things worse he’s been not good for me in the sim with a 4-7 record and a 5.23 ERA.
Who knows if that 1st round pick would have amounted to anything. But that Milwaukee farmhand with control issues and with a potential reassignment to the bullpen? Yup - Jacob Misahdbdbsjavevshavsvakzhsvsvsski. I probably declined that trade just so I didn’t have to spell his last name in the forum post. I watched Misiooihngoqneinrbnwqoski last night with both anguish for my Dodgers, but elation for my Thunder's future. This kid looks like the real deal.

But I can already tell you what's gonna be my worst, I'm pretty sure: I gave Aaron Judge (still in the minors getting known for his pension to K 30% of the time) to Chris's Data City Cache Hogs way back many years ago. I got Judge in the 3rd round the previous year. I do believe I won the championship that season - I'll have to look to see who I got for Judge, but pretty sure it was a one-year rental.
