Bums 7 @ Sea Wolves 3 (Sea Wolves up 3-2)

It was a cold night at Wrigley. Forty-nine degrees with a wind that cut through your jersey like a guilty conscience through a rookie's alibi. I'd seen enough ballgames to know when something was about to go down. The Bums and Sea Wolves had unfinished business from the night before.

The first inning played it cool, like a poker face at an all-night game. But in the second, that's when things got interesting. Lewis took his base like he owned it, then Marsh got mixed up in some funny business at third - the kind that leaves a mark in the error column. Garcia? He did what any good cleanup man does - cleaned up. Three-run shot. The kind that makes grown men weep.

The Sea Wolves weren't about to go down easy. They never do. Jones and Trout worked their magic in the third, like a couple of grifters running the perfect con. Two runs on the board, just to keep things honest.

Cole was working the mound like a seasoned interrogator - seven strikeouts, making batters confess to swings they'd rather forget. But Muncy? He had other plans. Fifth inning homer that screamed 'alibi' all the way to the bleachers.

The Bums kept building their case: two in the fifth, one in the sixth, another in the eighth. Methodical, like a detective following a paper trail. Marsh and Lewis were in the thick of it, playing both sides of the diamond like veteran flatfoots.

In the end, it all added up: 7-3 Bums. Sixteen strikeouts by their bullpen boys - the kind of numbers that make a statement nobody can argue with. The Sea Wolves' lineup? Left nine men stranded, like alibis that don't quite check out.

Just another night at the ballpark. Just another case closed. But in this game, tomorrow's another story waiting to be told.

Assignment closed, filed under: W, for Winners. Time to head home. But in baseball, like in my line of work, you never really close a case. You just wait for the next inning.
