SERIES PREVIEW

A HUGE series next round with Chicago hosting Santa Ana with the Wolves holding a 3 game lead over the Runners in the KML.

Brooklyn visits Ann Arbor, holding a two game lead over the Landlubbers in the wild card race.

Tucson visits Great, hoping to save their dwindling prospects in the playoff race.

Bako welcomes Grants Pass to town for the final installment of the Brotherly Battle. GP holds the series lead currently at 5-3 and hopes to put a dent in the eight game lead Bako has in the conference race.

Great jumps out to a 5-0 lead after four innings and then withstands a late four run rally to eek out the game one victory. Will Smith homers twice and drives in three as Tucson evens the series in Great with the 6-4 game two win. Game three is actually close until late. Great scores seven runs over the sixth and seventh innings to blow a close game open and coast to the win, securing the series victory. Despite the series win though, the Auk lose another game to the Dogs thanks to their streaki . . . . uhhh, not losing any of their last eight games.

Ann Arbor falls behind 7-1 in game one before rallying back with nine unanswered runs late to steal the opening game win. Brooklyn evens the series with a 3-2 game two win thanks to Lourdes Gurriel’s pinch hit, two run single in the seventh. Ann Arbor wins the rubber match on an extra inning walk off single off the bat of Tyler Freeman. The series win pulls the Landlubbers one game closer to the Kraken in the KML wild card race.

Royce Lewis has been a revelation, driving in 46 runs in 46 games; his two RBI’s in game one lead the Bums to the 4-2 win. In game two, starting pitchers last a combined 4.1 innings, taxing both teams bullpens. Both bullpens give up two runs, meaning Bako’s starter, Joey Lucchesi comes out the “better” by giving up just 5 runs in his abbreviated start. Game three decides the season series in the Brotherly Battle, and Bako comes out on top. Marcus Stroman pitches seven quality innings to outduel Zack Wheeler, who has not pitched up to expectations since arriving in Grants Pass at the deadline.

Santa Ana will hold on to the top spot in the KML courtesy of their game one, 8-2 victory. In game two, Chicago starter, Luis Castillo hands the Wolves an early lead, but then settles in to pitch six effective innings, allowing the Runners to come back. A Zach McKinstry two run double in the fourth is the deciding hit in the Runner win. In game three, Santa Ana’s Grayson Rodriguez comes in having given up 29 earned runs in 26 innings, so naturally he pitches 6.2 innings of three hit, shutout ball, striking out 11. The game is just 2-0 into the ninth, but a four run rally secures the Wolves win and extends their lead in the KML to four games over the Runners.

Royce is a stud no doubt in his 230 or so PAs allotted to him this Mutiny season. I would say your brother's Evan "Down on the Farm" Carter does have the better Mutiny performance so far. Just 75 PAs for him though. Geez I gotta trade for the guy as I talk about him a lot. But Wheeler and his 2.1 HR/9 is suffering from Scherzer-a-titis (and his 2.5 HR/9) which is diagnosed as susceptibility to giving up the long ball since his time at Grant's Pass. 15 games to go. Strap on your hernia belts boys. Or find a good bourbon of choice.
