Rum Runners 4 @ Sea Wolves 1 (Rum Runners lead 1-0)

With the exception of Hays in the leadoff position, the Rum Runners' hitters were all productive today with 16 hits or walks between them all. Likewise, their pitching also chipped in on this win in limiting the Wolves formidable offense to 7 men on base. Rum Runners' management has to be happy starting a series off like this.

Auk 4 @ Bums 3 (Auk lead 1-0)

I don't get it. Do the Auk know something we don't about relief pitching? Three of the Auk's wins against the Dogs came in their final inning of batting. And in their first win against the Bums and against Devin "Lights Out" Williams, the Auk string together 2 runs in the top of the 9th: walk, single, K, fielder's choice to score a run but which somehow did not yield an out (?), ground out to move the runners over, a throwing error from the Bum's 3B, followed by a ground out to end the inning. Damage done though as the Auk go ahead to win 4-3.

I'll take it.

A win from our #4 starter, Oviedo making his first start in the playoffs and some lineup shuffling from the last series seemed to make a difference in getting some traffic on the basepaths. Now to win game #2 by Castillo and send the Rum Runners back to Chicago with a 2-0 lead in the series.

If Scherzer can keep the ball in the stadium the Auk will have a chance this game 2. Last series opponent at Scurvy Stadium was much more HR friendly 118/97 versus the Bums home field : 81/98 Most of the Bums power is from the right side however. Scherzer gave up 39 Mutiny long balls in his 149 regular season innings pitched for a 2.4 HR/9. And 4 HRs in 10 wild card innings pitched vs the Dogs for a depressing 3.6 HR/9 Scurvy just assaulted the guy. Just keep it down in the strike down Maxwell and let your 10.3 R/9 do the talking.
